Today many of the baby boomers are retiring and require health care. There are a lot of challenges involved in providing health care for a large aging population. There are many programs to help the elderly but the funds used to provide money for these programs is drying up very fast.
One of these programs is Medicare. Medicare is a program here in the United States that provides health care for those over 65. It also provides health care for those under 65 who are permanently disabled. It was started in 1965 and has been a hot button for many politicians ever since.
Every time you get a paycheck there is a certain percentage taken out for this program. But with the rate at which this program is using money due to the fact that there is a large population of elderly people how use it. In the future it may become hard to use Medicare to provide health care for the baby boomers due to the huge cost.
Another program that helps assist elderly people is social security. This program does not directly help in providing health care for the elderly, but it does give a certain amount of money to elderly and disabled people. Many elderly people use this money to pay for their health care. So in an indirect way social security does pay for health care.
Social security is quickly being used up. This is where some of the taxes taken out your paycheck go to. This program was started in 1935. And as I said before indirectly this program helps provide healthcare for many people by giving them the funds to pay for it that they would not have if not for the assistance given to them by this program.
According to some of my research there are many experts who agree that if there are no steps taken the funds for social security will dry up by 2036. This will hinder many of us and we will not be able to provide healthcare for the elderly due to not having money. There are definitely some much needed changes that need to be done in order to keep this program from ending.
There are other ways that the elderly are provided healthcare. Some depend on their family. Many of the seniors who need constant healthcare depend on their children or other family members in order to get to their doctors and pay for their expenses. But with the rising cost of healthcare this can be very detrimental to a family.
All in all there are many elderly people today who need healthcare. With the baby boomers starting to reach retirement age there is a large population of people who are retiring and in need of health care. Without certain steps being made to provide healthcare for the future there may not be any for the younger generations.
